Forget
brick-and-mortar.
Try cardboard-and-tape. Unlikely and unstable as they
may seem, these two elements served as the foundation for a rock-solid
company founded in 1987. Inspired after a workout at his local Salt Lake
City gym, twenty-something Mike Pratt pieced together these materials to
construct a bag prototype that carried like a duffle and worked like a
locker. Thus was born The Original Locker Bag - the flagship product
around which OGIO International was formed.
True to his innovative nature, Mike
found inspiration for yet another new product on the golf course. He
nonetheless realized that his travel golf bag was seriously
lacking...something. So tinkering with materials that were, fortunately,
a few steps above cardboard, OGIO broke ground with a product unlike any
the golf industry has known. The Rig - so named for its
Swiss-Army-Knife-like reserve of surprises - was and remains the only
travel-to-cart golf bag on the market.
Launched with a little cardboard and a
revolutionary idea, the sport bag designer now boasts a significantly
more substantial foundation. In
2000, OGIO moved in to a new 64,000
square foot facility in Bluffdale, Utah to accommodate warehousing of
its more than 400 individual SKUs. An internal staff of 50 and a growing
international sales network round out OGIO's reach worldwide. Though the
financial picture has changed for the better, OGIO's "nothing-to-lose"
attitude remains. According to Mike, "the really great ideas aren't born
in the office. They come at the most unexpected times, so we do what we
can to foster unexpected experiences."
Hard work. Inspiration. Timing.
No wonder their slogan is, "Luck's Got
Nothing to Do With It."
